There are some things we all need to know. We might not have learned it in kindergarten, but we did learn a huge portion of it in school. That’s not to downplay the importance of learning through discovery, play and imagination, but we may need to help our kids see the connections between all of the learning they are doing.
We can start with two things to help our children buy into the importance of learning so that they will be all set to gain and retain the knowledge they need to be successful in life.
1. Start by helping them recognize the value of school. Some kids love school; others, not so much. As parents, helping our children understand the value of their education is critical to setting them up for success. They will pick up on your attitude toward school, so make sure it is positive.
2. Give them opportunities to explore their creativity. School allows children to be creative, but you can help them find connections when you help them seek out activities in areas they are most interested in.
