Have you ever faced a day feeling totally and completely unmotivated? Do you have any tricks to help get yourself going? For many of us as adults, at least some of our motivation is extrinsic: the kids have to get to school; you have a big presentation at work; there’s nothing in the fridge for dinner. And most of us have some level of intrinsic motivation too: we want our kids to do well at school; we want to do well at work; and we like to eat! Whatever it is that motivates us, hopefully as adults we’ve discovered what gets us going.
But intrinsic motivation, that internal drive to do something because you want to do it, can sometimes be elusive. How can we help our kids tackle a day when they aren’t motivated? We can start by giving them opportunities to discover their own motivation.
